His Story

The Struggle

For Vikram, every morning felt like a struggle. He would be in the washroom for a long while, struggling to pass stools. Even after he passed stools, it would feel incomplete and not satisfactory. And the worst part was that by the time it was evening, he would start feeling bloated and full, which caused him difficulty in holding his gases at work. This was becoming a source of embarrassment and struggle. He would pop laxatives to help clear his stools, but he understood that this is not something that he can be dependent on for a long time.

Daily Symptoms

  • He experienced constipation every morning, and even after stools - he would feel that incomplete feeling.
  • He would start feeling bloated in the evening, and also feel the constant urge to pass gases.
  • Constant holding gases in would make him feel stomach and back pain as well.

The Breaking Point

He realized that he cannot be dependent on laxatives for a long time. They were worsening his condition and he was worrying that he could be getting dependent on them now.

Our Assessment

What We Discovered

His constipation was driven by low gut motility, disturbed balance of the gut microbiome, and prolonged laxative use which had slowed his bowel movement.

Root Causes Identified

  • Low gut motility and slow digestion due to sedentary lifestyle, lack of fibre intake and prolonged laxative abuse.

Doctor's Analysis

Forcing bowels outwards with laxatives was causing more harm than good. His condition required stabilizing the digestive environment, gut microbiome and retraining of the colon

Treatment Protocol

Phase 1: Motility Reboot

  • Introduced him to warm, soft and nutritious food along with triphala at night to naturally induce gut movement.
  • Fixed lifestyle and routine and introduced movement and stretches to allow for natural bowel movement.

Phase 2: Microbial Balance

  • Reintroduced healthy gut bacteria along with supportive soluble fibre additions in diet.
  • Added pro, pro and post biotics to completely support the intestinal health.

Phase 3: Long-Term Stabilization

  • Bowel movements were now regulated. Flatulence and bloating were pretty much absent.
  • Reintroduced normal steady diet to be followed throughout post recovery. Added lifestyle habits and routine post-care.

Daily Routine

Morning warm water with ghee, fixed toilet timing followed by a short walk, warm balanced meals, digestive enzymes at lunch, ajwain water for gas, adequate hydration, evening walk, and consistent sleep timing.

His Journey

Week 2: Reduced Strain

Stools softer with less straining. Bloating intensity slightly reduced.

Week 4: Breakthrough Moment

For the first time in years, bowel movements felt complete and effortless.

Month 2: Rhythm Restored

Daily bowel movements established. Flatulence significantly reduced.

Month 3: Independence

Complete laxative-free bowel regularity. Energy and appetite stabilized.

Life After Treatment

6 Months Later

Now Vikram has normal bowel movement and a relatively healthy life. He tries to exercise or do yoga regularly and eats soluble fibre everyday along with his food. His gut health is now in his control. And he doesn't have to worry about bloating or flatulence again.

In His Own Words

“I was confused about what to do about my laxatives. When I went to my general physician he told me to take laxatives but only for a while. I did feel better - but my constipation returned once I stopped the tablets. I tried eating more vegetables, but the situation did not improve much. But when I approached Thavira, they told me that there is a sequence to doing these things and with them I was completely able to reverse the condition from the root. Now I have not worried about my gut in the past 2 months.”

What Vikram Still Does

  • Fixed morning bowel routine
  • Warm, fiber-diverse meals
  • Adequate hydration
  • Regular walking
  • Mindful eating and chewing
