His Story

The Struggle

Sandeep was struggling with diabetes and due to his haphazard routine and eating timings, he was losing his gut control as well. He felt heavy after his meals and it was getting difficult to manage his blood sugar over time as well. He was starting to crave a lot of sweets and this was worsening his glucose control. His doctor increased his metformin dose and gave him domperidone to address his heaviness, but the moment he stopped taking it - his heaviness would return.

Daily Symptoms

  • He felt like his digestion had slowed down, he would feel heavy after meals.
  • His blood sugar was spiking more than it usually did.
  • He was feeling low energy towards the evening and would lose all motivation to work after 5 pm.
  • He felt bloated throughout the day and felt like he was getting sluggish in life.

The Breaking Point

He often skipped meals to avoid feeling heavy but his blood sugar levels would not reduce. That's when he realized there was a gut based element to his diabetes and it was not just about managing his meals. His doctors could not pinpoint the cause of his blood sugar spikes and put him on extra medicines.

Our Assessment

What We Discovered

We discovered that his symptoms were driven by a sluggish gut motility, poor diet structure and timing along with weak digestion. This was causing increased heaviness and blood sugar spikes.

Root Causes Identified

  • Sluggish gastric motility, poor diet and meal timings, weak digestion, lack of proper gut blood circulation, liver sluggishness.

Doctor's Analysis

We needed to address his digestion and improve gut circulation because simply managing his diet was not enough. He was showing signs of early SIBO as well leading to poor motility and fermentation of food. Without restoring the gut rhythm, managing his blood sugar would have been irrelevant.

Treatment Protocol

Phase 1: Improving digestion

  • We started him on gut friendly and diabetes friendly meals.
  • And suggested him to start yoga asanas to promote gut motility along with some lifestyle changes like adjusting his meal timings and cutting down on bakery products and outside foods.
  • We added functional medicine support to help in aiding liver detox to improve his sluggishness.

Phase 2: Accelerating gut healing

  • We added acupuncture and hydrotherapy to aid in improving gut circulation so that the food gets properly absorbed.
  • Adding probiotics and improving the gut microbiome. Suggested weekly enema to clear accumulated toxins contributing to sluggishness.

Phase 3: Resetting his system

  • Improved his circadian rhythm and vagal tone for proper sympathetic tone to prevent adrenal fatigue.
  • Added simple lifestyle and diet improvements to help him get back to his regular routine.
  • Taught mindful eating practices to continue after the treatment. Blood sugar was now fairly under control. And Metformin had been reduced from 3 to 1 pill a day.

Daily Routine

Warm water hydration on waking, fixed meal timings, balanced warm meals, short post-meal walks, acupressure and abdominal hydrotherapy daily, mindful eating, and early light dinners.

His Journey

Week 2: First Shift

Post-meal heaviness reduced. Sugars showed fewer spikes. Energy slightly improved.

Week 4: Breakthrough Moment

Meals felt lighter. Sugar readings stabilized noticeably after food. Bloating reduced.

Month 2: Digestive Stability

Digestion predictable. Bowel movements regular. Cravings for tea and snacks reduced.

Month 3: Metabolic Rhythm Restored

Smooth digestion, stable post-meal sugars, improved energy, and renewed confidence in holistic diabetes management.

Life After Treatment

6 Months Later

Sandeep maintains stable digestion and improved glucose control by following consistent routines. He experiences steady energy and understands how to support his gut to manage diabetes long-term.

In His Own Words

“I was trying to get my blood sugar under control for so long. Little did I know that simply avoiding sugar was not enough. My gut bacteria were out of balance and this was causing my blood sugar to be out of balance as well. After 3 months with Thavira, I could finally feel like I was getting control over my blood sugar without having to diet too much. They also helped me in reducing my medicines.”

What Sandeep Still Does

  • Fixed meal timings
  • Warm, fiber-rich diabetic-friendly meals
  • Short post-meal walks
  • Regular hydration
  • Mindful eating and consistent sleep routine
