Her Story

The Struggle

Ritika was stuck in a cycle of treating her skin disorders not realizing that the eczema was not just a skin disease but a gut axis imbalance. Her dermatologists prescribed her steroid creams for her flare-ups but did not provide any long term solution. She could not understand why her flare-ups kept returning. And she was losing confidence in herself by the day. She was also feeling bloated, constipated throughout the day, but she did not connect that the gut disorders could have a role to play in her eczema. It was when she contacted us that we informed her about the potential connection between her gut imbalance and her skin disorder that she actually started connecting the dots about her flare-ups.

Daily Symptoms

  • She was bloated after meals especially from the afternoon - evening time.
  • She would pass stools once in 2-3 days and even after that she would feel like it was incomplete.
  • There were red, itchy patches on her arms and behind her knees which made her conscious about wearing sleeveless clothes or beachwear.
  • She was feeling tired after 4pm and felt like her energy was crashing, and she was affected by brain fog where she said she would feel distracted and unable to focus on the task at hand.

The Breaking Point

Despite steroid treatment for a year, the moment she stopped her medication - the flare-ups returned and she felt more prone to illnesses than before. She felt like this was not the solution she was looking for and started seeking other alternatives.

Our Assessment

What We Discovered

A comprehensive gut microbiome test confirmed that she had SIBO, a bacterial overgrowth disorder in her gut which was causing fermentation and inflammation in the gut. This inflammation was also increasing her skin flare-ups.

Root Causes Identified

  • SIBO had caused the gut lining to become permeable and this led to toxin derivatives to leak into the blood leading to increased immune response.
  • The prolonged steroid usage had made her immune system weaker and this led to the toxins settling into the skin which led to autoimmunity over time.

Doctor's Analysis

Treating her skin would not be helpful if the gut was not treated and her SIBO was not reduced. So healing the gut lining and eradicating the excess overgrowth was the first priority

Treatment Protocol

Phase 1: SIBO Eradication (Weeks 1-4)

  • We addressed her constipation and bloating through dietary modification like soluble fibre and ghee intake, along with some lifestyle remedies that helped fix her circadian rhythm.
  • Along with that we started on some natural anti-microbials that helped in clearing the overgrowth of bacteria.

Phase 2: Gut Repair & Inflammation Reset (Weeks 5-8)

  • Now that the bacteria are eliminated, it was a good time to fix what they had damaged.
  • So we started on a gut lining fix along with introduction was good restorative bacteria that would naturally help us rebuild what the bad ones had destroyed.

Phase 3: Microbiome & Immune Rebalance (Weeks 9-16)

  • Now that the gut lining was healed, she was starting to see significant improvement and reduction in her flare-ups.
  • Her skin patches had grown duller and it did not itch as much as ut used to. She was in a stage on remission. We focused on cutting her diet to clean low cab, low sugar and no processed foods.
  • This helped the body maintain its steady healing process. Her constipation resolved through this diet and she started getting normal stools.

Daily Routine

Low-fermentation meals with proper gaps, antimicrobial herbs in Phase 1, gut-repair support in Phase 2, probiotic timing in Phase 3, daily breathwork and light yoga, stress regulation, and consistent sleep routine.

Her Journey

Week 2-3: Early Relief

Bloating reduced significantly. Constipation eased. Skin irritation started calming. Sleep quality began improving.

Week 3: Breakthrough Moment

For the first time in years, her stomach felt light and eating felt safe again.

Month 2: Inflammation Settling

Gut symptoms largely controlled. Eczema flare-ups reduced in intensity and frequency.

Month 4: Stable Recovery

SIBO resolved. 70-80% reduction in eczema flare-ups. Energy, focus, and sleep normalized.

Life After Treatment

6 Months Later

She contacted us telling that her flare-ups were almost non-existent except for an occasional flare-up in case she binges on a lot of sugar or goes through stressful cycles. But she pretty much had her disease in control.

In Her Own Words

“I had absolutely no idea that my eczema was tied to my gut. I kept using steroids for a long time till a friend of mine suggested that I try some natural alternatives. During my treatment with Thavira, they guided me through everything - from diet, to lifestyle to even mental health sometimes. I started seeing improvements from 1 month itself. I was quite skeptical for a while when I begun the treatment, but by the end of it I was surprised by how intricate the human body is and how gut is tied to everything. Thanks Thavira health - you have given me my confidence back.”
