Deepakβs bowel movements gradually became less frequent over several years. Initially, he would skip a day occasionally, but over time it became common for him to pass stools only once every three to four days. When he did go, the stools were hard and required straining. The rest of the time he felt bloated and heavy, especially after meals. Friends and family suggested fiber supplements and home remedies such as isabgol and warm water. These provided temporary relief, but the underlying problem remained. Eventually, he began using laxatives more regularly, which made bowel movements easier but did not restore natural rhythm.
The breaking point came when Deepak realized that without laxatives, his bowels would not move at all. He began worrying that his gut had become dependent on medication.
Medical investigations ruled out structural disease or neurological damage. The problem was functional: the natural rhythm of bowel movement had become disrupted. Poor hydration timing, sedentary work, irregular meal patterns, and overuse of laxatives had reduced the colonβs natural motility signals. Fiber intake alone could not correct the issue because the bowel lacked the rhythm needed to move stool effectively.
Functional constipation is not simply a lack of fiber. The colon has lost its natural timing and signaling. Forcing bowel movements with laxatives may give relief but does not retrain the gut.
Warm water on waking, fixed toilet timing, balanced fiber intake, regular walking, hydration spaced through the day, mindful eating, and consistent sleep routine.
Bowel movements began occurring every 1β2 days with less straining.
Stools softer and easier to pass. Bloating significantly reduced.
Daily bowel movements without laxatives. Abdomen felt lighter and digestion more comfortable.
Deepak reports consistent bowel movements with minimal bloating or heaviness. He no longer relies on laxatives and maintains gut health through routine, diet, and daily activity.
“My constipation was getting really difficult to manage because I could not go to the motions without taking laxative pills. So I realized that it was time to seek proper medical guidance. And so when I consulted with them I realized that my problem was due to a slow gut for a very long time. After following their lifestyle and diet advice, I feel much much better.”
